Winter White

I have to admit.... here in Chicago, we have been spoiled. These past few years winters have been relatively mild.  In fact, last winter, the golf courses were still open in December.  In March, people were wearing their summer clothes for the St. Patrick's day celebration.  Unbelievable!!  And this year?  Lots of grey skies but snow was a rarity.... until this week.  We got hit with the snowstorm that took no prisoners in the midwest.  The snow started falling in the morning, continued throughout the day and well into the evening. Soft, fluffy flakes the size of a quarter that kept piling one on top of another, covering the ground with a plush blanket of snow!  A true Hallmark moment with strains of "Let It Snow" resonating in my head.  But wait!  Didn't we put the Christmas decorations away some time ago??  Conflicting thoughts of "this is soooo beautiful" mixed with "I just bought the latest trend for the spring season!" Forget the new season's colors... time to go back to winter white!

And the highlight of this late winter treat?  Seeing this gorgeous creature calmly sitting in our backyard.. enjoying the peacefulness of the day!

  3. Weather is abnormal all over this land. We have beautiful sunshine with cold temps and snow still on the ground from over a week ago. Your description of the barren tree outlined in white snow is blissful. Lovely fox looking lonely. Sunshine Smiles...

  4. The fox is amazing! We have foxes here too, but they run away when spotted. My Sister sent me some pics of her blue spruce up' there and they were really bending down, but just beautiful. (I thought snow was an all winter thing up there and not just at Christmas LOL! I have known it to snow in April 'up' there! )

  5. Well Kadee there's none of that white stuff here!!!! Cool & windy during the day & COLD (30 to 32 all week). But, all of your photos are stunning! The fox divine! Do you see them often? The owners of our new house said we'd have to watch Elle as there are coyotes there! Oh no we can't have that! Have fun at Canton Friday & I'll try to call to set up Monday so see if you can get more details. Ok? Hugs!

  6. You are surrounded by a lot of beauty, Kadee! It's great that you could take a picture of that gorgeous fox. It's always lovely to look at such pretty winter pictures but I can imagine how much you're looking forward to spring. Hopefully it'll be around the corner for you.

  7. Beautiful pictures, Kadee! I love seeing the Cardinal, since we don't have them here in Cali. Come and visit, it's going to be 75 degrees today! I love your picture of the fox, it's so cute. You're so lucky to have such beautiful creatures in your yard.

  8. We got hit with about 5", Kadee. But realizing that it was that wet, heavy snow told me that we are slowly creeping toward springtime. This is the time of year when we get those hard-to-shovel snows. It's supposed to be 45 here next week! Yay! It's coming!!!! Oh...and loved the photo of the fox! Aren't they just so beautiful??? :)

  9. No snow here in Virginia, Kadee. I miss it so much. I hope some of yours has melted and that you aren't buried and unable to get out.
    Your fox is beautiful. What a stroke of luck that he decided to visit your back yard and that he sat still for you to take his photograph.
    I have seen 3 little red foxes since we moved here in 2006, but none lately. They are always running when I see them anyway... no time to take photos. lol

    I love the cardinal too as they always remind me of my grandmother and hold a special place in my heart.
