On A Personal Note...

Remember when I said I was stressed out a while back?  I alluded to it here.  Well, with only two and one-half weeks to go I'd better let you in on what's happening to me.

We are moving!  And not only moving to one location, but three!  Hey... go big or go home, right??  The good news is that our home sold in three days.  No having to keep the house pristine waiting for phone calls from realtors wanting to show the home at a moment's notice.  Yes, that's the good news.  And I really don't have bad news attached to that.  Just the stressful reality of having to split our possessions between three different locations.

First, our son just graduated from college so he needs furnishings for his new apartment... in another state... requiring a rental truck and loading it up.  Thinking of all those big and little items required to start this new phase in his life.  "Picking" from our home.

Way to go!
Second, we need to pack up for our little cottage for two that will replace the home we live in now. I have named it "Chateau Amour" which makes my son wince at the thought!  Knowing that, I say "Chateau Amour" as often as I can just to get a reaction..  I love the role reversal!!  So, since we are truly downsizing I need to go through every big and little thing I own to decide what I need and, more importantly, what will fit.  When I say "cottage", I am not kidding!

My garage sale
And third?  I need to set aside furnishings I want for our home in Charleston.  Have we bought it yet? No, but we will.  For sure.  For real. Decisions to be made as to what set of dishes I want there.  What glasses?  Which armoire will look best in that home? The list is long and permanent as it will leave me with no opportunity to change my mind once it's stored.

And who is packing everything up?  ME!  The cottage is only three miles away.  It makes no sense to pay someone else to do this. And it has been suggested to get a POD to store the things we need for Charleston.  More self-packing.  And as for my son? My "mom" duties are few except for the suggestions of how to set up a home and what he needs to take with him... and the trip to Ikea with checkbook in hand!!

So, with only two and one-half weeks to go, let the frenzy begin!!!

  2. What a handsome guy your son is. Don't you love having adult children? I feel so blessed that mine turned out so well . . . in spite of all of my mistakes! It sounds like you have a lot of work ahead of you right now. I hope that when you settle into your little cottage you can take some time to enjoying living small for awhile. I'll look forward to hearing of your adventures. Blessings, Patti

  6. Congratulations on your son's graduation and the sale of your home. I don't envy you in the moving, though. I've done it a few times and Lord, that's a huge job. But, I know once it's over and you are able to relax, it will be worth it. Good luck on choosing which furniture goes where. And, it looks like you are just in time to enjoy one of our South Carolina summers. It's still pleasant right now. I am running a 10K race Sunday on Caper's Island, just north of Charleston by a few miles. We have to take a ferry to the island. Should be fun. I hope the mosquitos aren't bad. Talk soon!

    1. I'll be rooting for you all the way from Chicago!! Good luck! And I forgot about the mosquitoes you have. Hmmm... sounds like Charleston and Minneapolis could be competitive on that front! They called them the "state bird"! Probably by fall we should be down there. I will keep you posted!

How wonderful that your home sold in three days which eliminated a lot of stress. You will do just fine with the packing and selecting all of the different components to place where they need to be. I will be sending good thoughts for you to have the strength to do it all. Blessings...

  15. Oh, Kadee, moving has elements of excitement and frustration. I know. I have moved 23 times and I have packed everything myself just about every one of those times. So happy for you that your house sold SO quick and the idea of living in a cottage makes me swoon. Once you are settled (everywhere) and have a taste of what it will be like, you will be very happy, I'm sure. Eager to see photos once you plop down with no more boxes to empty. Good luck with everything and have some fun along the way.
Congratulations to the graduate and the beginning of a new life!

  21. Oh my word. Wow, you must thrive on stress, huh?

Your son is a handsome lad - great school, I wish him well in his future endeavors!

As for a "cottage for two," oh how I would love to downsize. But my hubs says no way, long as we're young and healthy we're staying - or actually what he laughingly says is "bury us in the back, we're not leavin!" LOL.

As for Charleston - oh how I long to visit that city..it is definately on my Bucket List! I have a tea society friend who lives near there and we keep saying we'll have a "meet and greet" there one early spring, but it has yet to happen. Hope it does soon.

GOOD LUCK, Kadee! It's all so very exciting!!

  23. I absolutely adore those wonderful pillows on those great white chairs. Lots of decisions and what a chore dividing up a lot of years of things collected in your home. so now I see, your new home is in charleston. I originally grew up in Aurora before moving to Chicago. WOW.... how amazing to sell your house in 3 days. My friend lives in Aurora and her house also sold in 3 days. Pretty amazing when that happens!

  24. Oh my! Did I see that you sold those darling pillows. I am sooooo sorry that i missed that garage sale... would have snapped those up in a second.
