Lovin' My Laundry Room!

In the thirteen laundry rooms I've owned.. from the the thirteen different homes we've lived in... this one beats them all ~ hands down!  The minute I set eyes upon it, I was instantly smitten with the black and cream checkerboard flooring.  Twelve inch linoleum squares showing only a bit of wear.  Seemingly impossible as they are truly vintage!
And that sink!  This 1929 year old girl shows her age with this as it's a very deep, double sink set on cast iron legs.  A difficult thing to replace as they just don't make them like this anymore!

Again, I'm having to show you an "after" photo as this was the second project I tackled upon moving in eight years ago.  The first step I took in this makeover was to paint the cabinets and distress them.

A Laura Ashley shade of green, Olive 3, and an antiquing glaze I made up (did I write down the formula?  if only!!).  It was back breaking work but so worth it to breath some life into what was originally a stark white generic cupboard.  The top of the counter was a laminate.  Wanting to replace it, I headed to Ikea to purchase a wooden counter top, cutting it to size.  Now I had a long expanse of counter top that brought more warmth into the room!  New pulls for the cupboards and that project was complete.

Originally, there were shelves that went the entire length of the wall.  Not necessary and made the room appear smaller.  As I liked the white shelving there was no need to do anything to them.  Just cut them down to size and support them with new brackets.

With a passion for vintage, I now had a fresh space to reflect that..
making it feel more comfortable. After all, sorting through dirty underwear and untucking scrunched up dirty socks isn't life's most pleasurable chore, for sure! So why not make your laundry room a place you don't mind spending time in!

A large "antique" clock face that, like all antiques, "stopped short never to go again".  (Words from a song we sang in school when I was little that actually has some validity to it!)  With two large glass canisters containing laundry soap set on the counter underneath it, that area in the room is now complete.

Do you like old wooden children's chairs?  I am addicted to them!  This charming little one is painted the same color as the cabinet but without a glaze......

.... and holds my waste basket.

And the other little detail that tickles me?  This one.

This little vignette rests on the shelf above the sink.  I just love looking up and having it catch my eye!  All it takes are those little touches to bring a smile to your face.  Little touches that makes a house a home.  Dirty socks and all!!!

Having moved twelve times myself, I know it's never easy but knowing you Kadee, I have NO doubt that your new nest will be just as fabulous and lovely as this one. XOXO Colleen

  14. Thank you so much for coming over to meet Buttercup, and leaving such a kind comment.
I thought wire would work best for his little feet, and embroidery thread was thin enough to wrap around.. I'm glad you thought it a good idea also.
    Enjoy your week,
    fondly,

The floor, the sink, the painted cabinet...all just yummy. I have a little child's chair exactly like yours, except mine is chippy dark green. I'm a sucker for little chairs, too!
